Factory floor with foreign experts
1 min read
Situation
Foreign engineers or managers working with local operators. Daily production meetings, shift handovers, equipment installation and quality reviews, usually in a meeting room next to the workshop and sometimes on the floor itself, with machine noise in the background and a large technical vocabulary.
Benefits
- The morning meeting starts on time, without waiting for the one bilingual person to be available.
- Technical terms are translated correctly and consistently once you have added them to AI Context: "hot rolling", "changeover", your machine names and product codes.
- The record of each meeting serves as the shift log or the minutes. Operators can re-read instructions instead of relying on memory.
- Safety briefings reach everyone in their own language.
Mode and setup
Use Two-Way for meetings and handovers. When one expert explains to a group, use One-Way.
- A USB conference microphone in the middle of the table. On the floor, a headset microphone for the speaker gives noticeably better results.
- In Settings → Audio Setting, turn on all 3 options: noise suppression, echo cancellation, auto gain. See Audio.
- Spend about 15 minutes in AI Context: every machine, product code and job title in the Dictionary and Keywords. Ask the foreign side for their list as well.
Notes
- One speaker at a time. In a noisy environment this matters even more.
- If a term keeps coming out wrong, add it to the Dictionary during the meeting. It is corrected from the next sentence.
- Use a large TV in the meeting room with text size 6 or above so the back of the room can read.
After the meeting
A bilingual record of every meeting, searchable in History. After a few weeks, your Dictionary covers most of the plant's vocabulary.
